Jake Lacey to sign with Miles Community College

Riders senior Jake Lacey has verbally committed to play college baseball this fall at Miles Community College in Miles City, MT. MCC is coming off a stellar year in 2019, in which they finished 42-14 and won the MonDak Conference regular season title. They went on to win the Region XIII Championship and host the North Plains District Championship, falling one game short of the NJCAA Division II World Series. “We have had a great pipeline of Riders players attend MCC, and Jake will be another great addition to this tradition,” said Riders Head Coach Nate Perleberg. “Coach Brabant does a great job of with our players in preparing them as both baseball players and men for the next steps of their lives. It helps being able to go from one winning program to another and going to a program that values many of the same principles that we do here at Riders Baseball.”

“When you get guys from quality programs with a quality philosophy and you throw in a great support group in the family, you win,” said MCC head coach Jeff Brabant. “With Jake being in the Rider program with a tremendous family at home, we know we are getting guy who will transition right into our mold. Also, getting a guy of Jake’s ability late in the year is fortunate. At this stage, Jake’s ability to focus on one sport all year long, increase his strength and to focus on the mental side of the game will produce a well rounded player for us. We like where Jake’s ceiling projects and we believe his work ethic will allow him to achieve levels to afford him to be able to compete at the collegiate ranks. Jake’s best days on the diamond are yet to come and we are fortunate to be able to play a large role in his growth. I’m looking forward to watching him mature in our uniform.”

Jake is enjoying a very successful senior season with the Riders. Lacey transferred to Gillette last fall from Newcastle WY and attended Campbell County High School. Last winter, Lacey was a key member of the Gillette Camels State Runner-Up Basketball team. This season with the Riders, Lacey is amongst the team leaders in almost every offensive category. He is currently hitting .364 with 16 doubles, 51 RBI and 52 Runs scored. He has also stolen 28 bases and has a .463 On Base Percentage. Defensively, his versatility has made him a key cog in the Riders everyday lineup.

“From day 1 Jake has fit the Riders mold and been such a welcomed addition to our progam,” said Riders Head Coach Nate Perleberg. “I joke that he is the best free-agent pickup that we’ve ever signed. We knew he was a good player from coaching him a few years in our Fall Ball program, but I don’t think any of us expected him to be having this type of season. Offensively, he has been the definition of consistent and clutch. There is some real talent in his bat and defensively he has become a very good first baseman. He is a tireless worker and a team-first guy. Jake’s very humble young man who has earned the respect of his coaches and team-mates from day 1. Jake is just starting to un-tap his potential and is an absolute steal for Coach Brabant and the Pioneers. The Riders family would like to congratulate Jake Lacey on this great accomplishment and can’t wait to follow you the next two years at MCC.”

Jake is the son of John and Sarah Lacey of Gillette. He graduated from CCHS in May and will study general courses the first two years at MCC.
